Bleaching lightens the color of natural teeth to brighten and whiten your smile.
An inlay is a tooth colored filling, custom made in a dental laboratory, that can add strength as well as beauty to your smile.
An implant is a small metal cylinder surgically inserted into the bone to replace the root of a missing tooth preventing the bone loss that takes place after a tooth has been extracted.
A Targis/Vectris Crown is a metal free crown that increases the strength of your teeth and looks and wears more like natural teeth than porcelain and metal crowns.
Veneers are a "front" put on teeth to improve their looks by reshaping or lightening the teeth.
Preparing a bleach tray takes two visits. At the first visit an impression is taken so that a custom bleach tray can be made. About a week later, at the second visit, the bleach tray and bleaching material is given to the patient. At home the patient puts a small amount of the bleaching material in the tray and wears the tray for several hours each day. The length of the bleaching process depends on the patients goals and how quickly results can be seen. It will usually take between 2 to 6 weeks. The longer it is worn, the lighter the teeth become.
An inlay can be completed in two visits. At the first visit the tooth is numbed if necessary and the old filling or decay is removed. Then an impression of the teeth is taken and a temporary inlay is put in the tooth. At the second visit, the temporary inlay is removed. The new inlay is tried in and the bite adjusted. A conditioning gel used to prepare the tooth is placed on the tooth and then rinsed off. Then the inlay is bonded into the tooth with a bonding cement that is cured with a harmless high intensity light and the excess cement is removed.
Implants are done in several phases over the course of several months. Dr. Wolcott works with oral surgeons to help patients through the implant process. The implant is placed by an oral surgeon and the final crown or bridge is completed by our office. For more information about crown and bridge procedures see our Restorative section. These crowns are unique, one-of-a-kind, and metal-free. They are made from a ceramic optimized polymer, or Ceromer, that is fused with a glass-fiber framework. They are as strong as metal crowns, have superior fit and esthetic qualities and they wear like natural teeth. In addition, because of the fabrication process, they fracture less than regular metal and porcelain crowns. The procedure is basically the same as for a porcelain crown. Please see this section in our Restorative services.
Veneers can be completed in two appointments. The first appointment involves preparing the tooth by smoothing the front of the selected teeth. Then an impression is taken. The second appointment is usually about two weeks later. The veneers are tried in and then cemented in with a cement that is cured by a harmless, high-intensity light. The excess cement is removed and the bite checked. Then youre off with your beautiful new smile.
